What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (tread separation) that poses a significant risk of loss of vehicle control and crashes, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Toyo Tire Holdings of Americas Inc. is recalling certain Toyo and Nitto brand tires produced between September 19, 2010, and October 2, 2010. The affected models include the Toyo Versado CUV, Versado LX II, Open Country All Terrain, and Tourevo LS II, as well as the Nitto Terra Grappler All Terrain. The recall involves approximately 4,891 units.
The defect involves a rubber chemical mixture in some of the recalled tires that does not meet Toyo's specifications. This issue may cause sections of the tread to become detached, which could result in a loss of vehicle control and potentially lead to a crash.
Toyo will notify owners and replace the tires free of charge, including mounting, balancing, and taxes. The safety recall began on February 18, 2011. Owners may contact Toyo toll-free at 1-800-442-8696 or Nitto at 1-888-529-8200. Owners may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit safercar.gov.
