What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (tread detachment) that increases the risk of a crash, but the source text does not report any specific injuries or fatalities, fitting the 'High' severity criteria for risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.
Plain-English summary
Toyo Tire Holdings Of Americas Inc. is recalling certain Proxes A27 tires, size P185/60R16 86H, produced between September 21, 2018, and September 25, 2018. The affected tires have DOT date codes 3718 and 3818.
The recall is due to a manufacturing error where prototype rubber compound was mixed with the production compound. This defect may result in sections of the tire tread detaching. If the tread detaches, the tire can lose pressure, which increases the risk of a crash.
The recall began on May 24, 2019. Toyo will notify owners, and dealers will replace the tires free of charge. Owners may contact Toyo customer service at 1-800-442-8696 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
