The rear axle cross pins were not properly heat treated, which could cause them to fracture and become displaced within the rear axle. If a pin shifts out of position, it may create an interference condition that causes the rear axle to lock. This could prevent the driver from maintaining directional control of the vehicle, leading to a crash without warning.
