Forest River, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2011 Sandpiper and Sierra trailers equipped with Dexter axles. The recall addresses a defect where cracks could appear in the spindle weld on some axles.
These cracks can propagate and cause the spindle to detach from the axle tube, resulting in the separation of the wheel end from the vehicle. This creates a road hazard and compromises the driver's control of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
The safety recall began on January 6, 2011. Forest River is working with Dexter Axle to inspect the axle serial number and replace the axle if it falls within the affected serial number range.
