Kovatch Mobile Equipment Corp. (KME) is recalling certain model year 2007 through 2009 Predator model emergency vehicles manufactured between October 15, 2007, and November 23, 2009. These vehicles are equipped with Detroit Diesel Series 60 engines. The recall affects 64 units.
The defect involves engine software that may cause the engine to shut down unexpectedly when a diesel particulate filter over-temperature condition is detected. An unexpected engine shutdown in an emergency vehicle could hamper rescue operations and put first responders and/or the public at risk.
All customers with affected vehicles have been contacted by Daimler Trucks, and repairs will be performed by Detroit Diesel. The safety recall began on September 10, 2010.
