Plain-English summary
General Motors is recalling certain model year 2009 and 2010 Pontiac Vibe vehicles. The recall addresses a defect in the accelerator pedal sensor assembly where the friction lever's sliding surface may become smooth during operation. If condensation occurs on this surface, such as from heater operation when the assembly is cold, friction may increase.
This condition may result in the accelerator pedal becoming harder to depress, slower to return to idle, or, in the worst case, mechanically stuck in a partially depressed position. This increases the risk of a crash. Dealers will install a reinforcement bar in the accelerator pedal to allow it to operate smoothly. This service will be performed free of charge.
The safety recall is expected to begin early February and be completed in late April 2010. Owners may contact Pontiac at 1-800-620-7668 or visit the owner center at www.gmownercenter.com. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or go to safercar.gov.
