The irons are being recalled because the thermostat lacks a back-up protective device to prevent overheating, presenting a fire hazard. CPSC has received one report of an iron catching fire while in the "OFF" position. No injuries or property damage were reported in connection with this incident.

The irons were sold nationwide at discount stores from December 1995 through February 1996 for about $10. Consumers should immediately stop using the irons and return them to the store where purchased for a full refund.
