Plain-English summary

Proctor-Silex, of Glen Allen, Va., is recalling approximately 970 steam irons (model 17520) due to a fire hazard. The circuit board inside the recalled irons can ignite. The irons are made of purple and white plastic with the "Proctor Silex" trademark displayed on the side in white letters. They were packaged in a white cardboard box with gray lettering labeled "EASY PRESS IRON....Model 17520.....Series A1320." The model and series numbers are located on the back side of the iron at the bottom. The products were manufactured in China.

The recalled irons were sold at Shopko and Auchan stores from May 2002 through June 2002 for about $18. No injuries or fires have been reported in connection with this recall.

Consumers should stop using the iron immediately and contact Proctor-Silex toll-free at (800) 672-5872, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, to arrange for a free replacement.
