Plain-English summary
Kmart Corporation is voluntarily recalling approximately 6,500 boys' newborn 3-piece outfits. The outfits consist of a blue and white cotton/polyester cardigan sweater, a short-sleeved top, and checked pants. They were sold nationwide in Kmart stores during January and February 1994 for $12.99. The garments feature airplane appliques on the sweater and top and can be identified by a hangtag stating "Dept. 2116, M4311, Style 2129, Item 4200."
The recall is due to a potential choking hazard. The snap fasteners on the front of the cardigan sweaters and the collars of the short-sleeved tops may detach from the garments. Kmart discovered 155 garments with detached snap fasteners at various distribution centers. There have been no reports of injuries associated with this defect.
Consumers who purchased these outfits should discontinue use immediately. They should return the outfits to the nearest Kmart store for a full refund.
