Golden Apple XXCO is voluntarily recalling approximately 200,000 disposable novelty cigarette lighters shaped like tractor trailers. The lighters were sold at convenience stores nationwide from December 1993 through March 1994 for about $1.50. The products feature one of three designs: "American Spirit," "Truck Country," or "Midnight Rider," and are marked with an apple figure and the word "apple" on the flue. A caution sticker on the back indicates they were made in the Philippines.

The recall is being issued because the tractor trailer-shaped lighters are very attractive to children, who may mistake them for toys. If a child plays with the lighter, a fire and/or serious burn injuries may result. The recall was initiated after the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection referred a complaint to the CPSC from the Deputy Fire Marshal of Plymouth, CT.

Consumers should immediately put the lighters out of reach of children. They should then return the lighters to the store where purchased to receive a free gift.
