Dragons Are Too Seldom, Inc. is voluntarily recalling approximately 40,000 infant heating pads in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The recalled products include the "Safe Heating Pad for Babies," "Snoopy Safe Heating Pad for Babies," and "Snooze Zoo Instant Heating Pad for Babies." These pads were distributed nationwide from November 1988 to March 1992 and sold for approximately $15 to $20.
The heating pads are sealed plastic pouches containing sodium acetate solution. The company received reports of more than nine burn injuries to infants. The hazard occurs if a pad is placed on an infant immediately after being removed from boiling water or a microwave oven, which may cause the pad to leak hot fluid or result in a thermal contact burn.
