The recall was initiated in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) after the manufacturer discovered a potential hazard during field testing.

The recalled vehicles are equipped with an 18-volt battery system. Unlike previous 12-volt models, the stronger battery may cause the spring-loaded switch's contact points to weld together during the initial surge of electricity. If this occurs, the motor remains running, and the vehicle continues moving forward without the ability to stop. The vehicles were distributed to retailers beginning August 21, 1991, and sold for approximately $359 to $399 each.

Owners of the affected units should stop using the vehicles immediately. Consumers are asked to contact Kransco's customer service department at 1-800-348-0751 for instructions on how to disable the vehicle. The company will send a replacement switch for home installation or offer repair services at one of its 260 nationwide service centers.
