The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Del-Rain Corporation, through R.E. Chapin Manufacturing Works, Inc., are recalling certain Pelonis Disc Furnace portable electric space heaters. The recall addresses a potential fire hazard caused by defective electric plugs used in these units. The companies initiated this voluntary repair program in cooperation with the CPSC after identifying that the plugs could possibly cause a fire.
The recall affects Pelonis Disc Furnace portable electric space heaters, specifically Model #P861-TC or Model #P861-TC/VHC, with serial numbers ranging from 10,001US through 119,000US. These heaters were sold nationwide since October 1987. To date, there have been no known fires or injuries associated with the defective plugs.
Consumers with affected heaters should discontinue use immediately. They should call R.E. Chapin Manufacturing Works toll-free at 1-800-444-3140 between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. to arrange for a free repair of the heater.
