Plain-English summary
Neiman Marcus and Susan Crane, Inc. are voluntarily recalling two types of gift wrap ornaments sold as part of gift-wrapped boxes. The first is a fuzzy, squeaking yellow duck ornament, and the second is a painted wooden Hansel and Gretel decoration. These items were attached to gift-wrapped boxes in Neiman Marcus stores between January 1, 1987, and April 30, 1988.
The recall is issued because the ornaments present potential hazards to young children. The fuzzy duck contains small black plastic eyes that can be pulled off, creating a choking or aspiration hazard. The wooden Hansel and Gretel decoration contains paint with lead levels exceeding the 0.06% limit allowed by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, posing a potential lead poisoning hazard.
Approximately 6,000 duck ornaments and 11,000 Hansel and Gretel decorations were distributed. Consumers who received these ornaments as part of a Neiman Marcus gift-wrapped box should return them to a Neiman Marcus store for a refund of the gift-wrap price.
