The issue was initially brought to the CPSC's attention by the Dade County Florida Fire Department, which received a box of the lighters from an anonymous source. The source text explicitly states that there have been no injuries or fires reported related to these lighters.

Because consumers cannot easily differentiate between defective and non-defective units, Campari USA urges consumers who still possess these lighters to carefully dispose of them. Consumers are warned to dispose of the lighters in a manner that prevents children from accessing the discarded items.
