Plain-English summary
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Hedstrom Company announced a voluntary repair program for approximately 34,200 Twin Totliner strollers manufactured between October 1975 and April 1982. The recall addresses a hazard where a child's foot could become trapped between the two footrests of the stroller, which is designed to carry two children side by side.
Hedstrom received reports that six children suffered broken legs after getting a foot caught in the space between the footrests. The affected strollers were distributed nationally in the United States and in Canada. Model numbers affected include Hedstrom models 15-063, 15-163, 15-562, 15-5623, 15,662, 15-763, 15-862, and 15-963, as well as Sears, Roebuck and Co. model 36494 and Sears Canada, Inc. (formerly Simpson Sears) model 66068. Strollers manufactured after April 1982 feature a single footrest and are not affected.
Because the firm is out of business, the repair program is no longer available. Consumers are advised to stop using the product immediately and discard or destroy the strollers to prevent injuries. Consumers may contact the CPSC toll-free hotline at 800-638-CPSC for more information.
