AMF Voit, Inc. has announced a voluntary repair program for approximately 97,300 carbine aquatic spear guns. The affected products may contain a defective trigger that allows the spear to fire unintentionally, even when the safety catch is engaged. The recall involves AMF models G-6 and G-7, as well as Sears model 436.573140.
The AMF models were sold under the AMF label by approximately 6,000 retailers since 1967. Sears, Roebuck and Company marketed approximately 1,400 of the spear guns under its private label between 1970 and 1973. To date, AMF has received 11 consumer complaints regarding this hazardous malfunctioning, while Sears has received no complaints.
Consumers who own these models should disassemble the gun handle assembly from the barrel and mail the handle assembly and spear shaft to the nearest AMF Voit outlet for free replacement parts. Consumers should not return the gun barrel, spear point, or shock lines. AMF Voit will reimburse all postage costs.
