Sloosh dive sticks recalled for impalement risk under federal dive stick ban
Joyin expanded its recall of Sloosh dive sticks to models 40003 and 16154 alongside model 40041. The sticks exceed the federal compression limit and pose an impalement hazard. No injuries reported.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: Rubric level 3 covers risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported: the sticks pose a documented impalement hazard and violate a federal ban, but the source states no injuries have been reported.
Plain-English summary
Joyin US Corp. has expanded a recall of Sloosh dive sticks to cover models 40003 and 16154 in addition to the previously recalled model 40041. About 404,000 dive sticks are now covered, a total that includes the 254,000 recalled on June 11, 2026.
The dive sticks are hard plastic, cylinder-shaped, come in various colours, and measure roughly 7 inches long and about 1 inch or less in diameter. Models 40041 and 40003 are printed on the back of the Sloosh water toys box next to the bar code and on one end of the stick; model 16154 is printed on the polybag above the barcode and on one end of the stick. Model 40041 sticks sold before October 23, 2025 are recalled, as are models 40003 and 16154 sold before December 31, 2025.
The sticks violate the federal dive sticks ban because they exceeded the compression limit, posing an impalement hazard. In shallow water a child may fall or land on a stick and suffer serious piercing injuries, and facial and eye injuries are possible when children retrieve the sticks underwater. No injuries have been reported.
Stop using the dive sticks, take them away from children and dispose of them. Photograph the discarded sticks in the trash and email the photo to Joyin at [email protected]; Joyin will then send redesigned sticks that meet federal regulations. Other items in the Sloosh water toys package can still be used.
