Plastic tip restraint kits, also referred to as furniture straps, manufactured by Cranach Hardware are being recalled. Each kit contains two white plastic brackets or mounts, a white plastic cable zip tie and two pairs of screws.
The restraint kits can break or degrade, posing tip-over and entrapment hazards that can result in serious injuries or death to children or elderly consumers interacting with furniture secured to the wall with the defective plastic restraints. The CPSC is aware of at least 115 incidents where consumers reported that the kits broke, including six reported tip-over incidents. No injuries have been reported.
About 55,170 units were sold on Amazon beginning in September 2019 for between $6 and $30 depending on the number of units per package.
Consumers should stop using the plastic restraints immediately and contact Cranach Hardware for a free replacement kit made of stainless steel, keeping children away from the furniture while waiting. Photographic evidence of destruction or disposal is required to receive the replacement.
