Cranach Hardware Plastic Tip Restraint Kits Recalled for Tip-Over Hazard

Cranach Hardware plastic furniture restraint kits can break or degrade, creating tip-over and entrapment hazards. About 55,170 units sold since September 2019 are affected; consumers should stop using them and request free stainless steel replacements.

Cranach Hardware is recalling plastic tip restraint kits (also called furniture straps) sold on Amazon since September 2019 for between $6 and $30 per package. About 55,170 units are affected by this recall.

The plastic brackets, mounts, and cable zip ties in these kits can break or degrade over time. When furniture secured with these defective restraints breaks, the furniture can tip over, creating a hazard. CPSC testing found that the plastic restraints failed to meet ASTM F3096-23, the industry standard for tip restraints.

CPSC is aware of at least 115 incidents in which consumers reported that the plastic restraint kits broke. Six of these incidents involved actual tip-over events. No injuries have been reported to date.

Consumers should stop using these plastic restraints immediately and keep children away from secured furniture while awaiting replacement.
