This recall involves Party Favors lite-up torches and mini laser pointers. Affected models include PF-1082, a single lite-up torch in white, blue or orange about 5 inches long; PF-1227, a two-pack in orange and green about 4 inches long; PF-1153, a three-pack in orange, blue and green about 3 inches long; and PF-1084 mini laser pointers. About 10,100 were sold at All Star Toys in Brooklyn, New York; Home Bargain and One Dollar Only in San Francisco, California; Almacenes Colon in Carolina, Puerto Rico; Dollar Mart in Houston, Texas; and various stores nationwide from June 2024 through May 2025 for about $1.
The lite-up torches contain button cell batteries in violation of the mandatory standard for toys, and the mini laser pointers contain button cell batteries in violation of the mandatory standard for consumer products, because the batteries can be accessed easily by children. The laser pointers also lack the warnings required under Reese's Law. When button cell or coin batteries are swallowed, the ingested batteries can cause serious injuries, internal chemical burns and death. No incidents have been reported.
Owners should immediately stop using the products, take them away from children and store them out of reach, then contact MTC Trading for a full refund, emailing a photograph confirming disposal. Button cell batteries are hazardous and should be disposed of or recycled under local hazardous waste procedures.
