509 Helmets Recalled Due to Risk of Head Injury

Teton Outfitters LLC, dba 509, a Polaris subsidiary of Rigby, Idaho, is recalling approximately 201,200 509 helmets and 509 for Polaris helmets (about 26,800 additional units in Canada). The recalled helmets fail to provide sufficient protection in the event of a crash, posing a risk of head injury. Models affected include 509 Tactical 3.0 (Youth, Mountain, and Trail), 509 for Polaris Tactical 3.0 (Youth and Mountain), small and medium 509 Tactical 2.0 helmets manufactured in 2023, and multiple models with Fidlock® chin straps (Tactical 2.0, Altitude 2.0, Delta R3L, Delta R4, Delta V, Mach III, Mach IV, and Mach V) manufactured from 2020 to present with a stainless-steel glide bar. The firm has received one incident in which a rider's helmet became detached during a crash, resulting in a concussion.

The recalled helmets were sold online at www.ride509.com and www.polaris.com and at 509 and Polaris dealers nationwide from January 2020 through May 2025, priced between $140 and $900. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled helmets. Owners of recalled 509-branded Tactical 3.0 or Tactical 2.0 helmets should contact 509 at 877-743-3509 (7 a.m. to 7 p.m. CT, Monday–Friday), [email protected], or https://ride509.com/pages/recalls for instructions on how to receive a refund (if purchased online), website credit, or replacement helmet. Owners of recalled 509 for Polaris helmets should contact Polaris at 800-765-2747 for the same remedy options. Proof of purchase is not required. After confirmation of recall status, all helmets should be discarded in local household trash following destruction instructions on the respective websites. For helmets with Fidlock® chin straps, Polaris is providing instructions on how to inspect and correctly repair the webbing routing on the chin strap. Both 509 and Polaris are contacting all known purchasers directly.
