Modus Furniture Kentfield Dressers Recalled for Tip-Over and Entrapment Hazards
Kentfield Solid Wood Eight-Drawer Dressers can tip over if not wall-anchored, risking entrapment injuries or death to children. Modus Furniture is offering free repair kits and installation.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The hazard poses a serious risk of injury or death to children through tip-over and entrapment, and the product violates STURDY Act safety standards. However, no injuries or deaths have been reported, making the hazard theoretical rather than confirmed, which places this in the High category.
Plain-English summary
Modus Furniture International is recalling approximately 675 Kentfield Solid Wood Eight-Drawer Dressers sold between January 2024 and December 2024. The dressers are also sold under the names Eliza, Elyza, and Westmont with model number 8ZU582A.
The dressers are unstable and can tip over if they are not properly anchored to the wall. This creates a serious risk of entrapment and tip-over injuries or death to children. The dressers violate performance requirements of the STURDY Act, federal safety standards for clothing storage units.
The recalled dressers were sold at Joybird Stores nationwide and online at wayfair.com, allmodern.com, and joybird.com for between $980 and $2,000. Affected units have production date codes from October 2023 through August 2024, printed on a label on the rear of the dresser.
Consumers should stop using the dressers immediately and contact Modus Furniture for a free repair kit and free in-home installation if desired. Modus is contacting all known purchasers directly. For more information, consumers can call Modus toll-free at 888-859-2129 (Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. PT), email [email protected], or visit www.modusfurniture.com.
