Modus Furniture Recalls Dressers Due to Tip-Over and Entrapment Hazards

Modus Furniture is recalling Brighton, Travis, and Bevelle dressers because they are unstable without mirrors, posing tip-over and entrapment risks to children.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (tip-over/entrapment) where the source explicitly states that no injuries or deaths have been reported, fitting the criteria for a High severity score.

Plain-English summary

Modus Furniture is recalling approximately 1,300 Brighton, Travis, and Bevelle dressers due to tip-over and entrapment hazards. The recalled dressers are unstable if the mirror is not installed, which can result in death or injuries to children. The products do not comply with the performance requirements of the U.S. voluntary industry standard ASTM 2057-17, and the tip-over restraint kits do not comply with the F3096-14 standard.

The recalled dressers were manufactured from November 2017 through February 2019 and sold at Costco and other furniture stores nationwide and online for between approximately $700 and $1,100. The dressers feature mahogany and cherry wood veneers with satin nickel-finished pull knobs and handles. A label on the back of each unit displays the date of manufacture and "MADE IN INDONESIA."

Consumers should keep children away from the dressers until repairs are completed. Modus Furniture is contacting known purchasers directly to provide a free compliant replacement tip-over restraint kit and a one-time, free in-home installation. Consumers can also contact Modus Furniture toll-free at 888-859-2129 or visit their website for more information.
