Holosun firearm dot sights recalled for lithium battery ingestion hazard

Holosun has recalled approximately 9,400 firearm dot sights with accessible lithium coin batteries that pose an ingestion hazard. The products violate federal safety regulations by lacking child-resistant packaging and required warning labels.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The hazard is well-documented: coin battery ingestion can cause serious internal injuries, chemical burns, and death. However, no injuries or deaths have been reported for this product. This fits the Score 3 criteria for risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.

Plain-English summary

Holosun Technologies has recalled approximately 9,400 firearm dot sights in two models: the Red Dot Sight (Model HS503G-ACSS) and the Gold Dot Sight (Model HE512C-GD). These dot sights are accessories that attach to firearms to provide an illuminated aiming point. Each product includes a CR2032 lithium coin battery.

The recalled dot sights violate federal safety regulations because the lithium coin battery can be easily accessed, creating an ingestion hazard. According to Reese's Law requirements, the battery is not in child-resistant packaging and the products lack required warning labels. When coin batteries are swallowed, they can cause serious internal injuries, chemical burns, and death.

The dot sights were sold between February 2023 and August 2024 at retailers including Primary Arms, EuroOptic, GRITR Sports, Davidson's, MidwayUSA, Carolina Sporting Arms, Palmetto State Armory, and online at opticsplanet.com, typically priced between $250 and $350.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled dot sights and store them away from children. For HS503G-ACSS models, Holosun will provide a free recall kit containing a battery compartment enclosure with required labeling and an updated instruction manual. For HE512C-GD models, Holosun will provide free return shipping and will install a compliant battery compartment, include an updated manual and new packaging. Holosun is contacting all known purchasers. For more information, contact Holosun Technologies at 888-869-1180 (Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT), [email protected], or visit holosun.com.
