Peg Perego Inclined Sleeper Bassinets Recalled for Suffocation and Fall Risk

Peg Perego has recalled YPSI and Z4 inclined sleeper bassinets because they violate federal safety standards for infant sleep products and pose a risk of suffocation and falls.

What this means for you

Highest-severity recall. Risk of serious injury or death is documented or strongly suspected. Stop using the product now and follow the agency's instructions.

Our severity reasoning: The source text explicitly states that "infant fatalities have occurred in inclined sleeper products" matching the products in this recall. Per the severity rubric, the presence of known fatalities mandates a Critical rating regardless of other factors.

Plain-English summary

Peg Perego SPA has recalled approximately 550 YPSI and Z4 inclined sleeper bassinets sold individually or as accessories to YPSI and Z4 stroller systems. The bassinets were sold online through Amazon.com, Albeebaby.com, Strolleria.com, and other websites, as well as at Baby First Furniture and other stores nationwide from July 2022 through April 2023 for approximately $250.

The bassinets violate the Safe Sleep for Babies Act because they were marketed for infant sleep and have an incline angle greater than 10 degrees. According to the CPSC, infant fatalities have occurred in inclined sleeper products after infants rolled from their back to their stomach or side while unrestrained, or under other circumstances. The bassinets also violate the Infant Sleep Products regulation because they do not have a stand.

Only bassinets manufactured on or after June 23, 2022 are included in this recall. The manufacture date and model number are located in the hood/head area of the bassinet beneath the pad and internal lining. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bassinets and contact Peg Perego at 877-737-3464 (9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday), [email protected], or https://us.pegperego.com/store/pegus/en_US/recalls for instructions on obtaining a full refund or repair. Consumers who purchased the bassinet as part of a stroller system with a stand will receive instructions on how to disable the backrest recline adjustment feature and may receive a $50 cash incentive for proof of disengagement. No injuries have been reported.
