Iron Dietary Supplements Recalled Due to Non-Child-Resistant Packaging

Nationwide Pharmaceutical is recalling Ferrous Sulfate enteric-coated tablets because the packaging does not meet child-resistant requirements, posing a poisoning risk to young children. About 4,000 bottles were sold at major retailers from December 2022 through January 2023.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The hazard involves a risk-of-harm product (iron poisoning in children) where the source explicitly states no injuries have been reported. Per the severity rubric, absence of reported illness with a theoretical hazard yields a maximum score of 3 (High).

Plain-English summary

Nationwide Pharmaceutical is recalling Ferrous Sulfate (Iron) Enteric-Coated Tablets, 324 mg, in 100-tablet bottles. The recall affects about 4,000 units that were sold at Albertsons, Walmart, CVS, and Walgreens nationwide from December 2022 through January 2023 for approximately $6 each.

The recalled product is manufactured by Prodigy Innovation LLC of Princeton, New Jersey. The bottles bear "Nationwide Pharmaceutical" and its logo on the top left of the label. Affected lot numbers are M0786, M0816, M0817, and M0818, printed on the bottom of the bottle.

The dietary supplements contain iron, which is subject to child-resistant packaging requirements under the Poison Prevention Packaging Act (PPPA). The packaging of these products does not meet those requirements, creating a risk of poisoning if the contents are swallowed by young children. No injuries have been reported to date.

Consumers should immediately store the recalled supplements in a location out of reach and sight of children. They should contact Nationwide Pharmaceutical at 800-697-3329 (8 a.m. to 4 p.m. CT, Monday–Friday), email [email protected], or visit https://nationwidepharmaceutical.com for disposal instructions. The product may also be returned to the place of purchase for a refund.
