What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The source documents 26 actual fire incidents with significant property damage (fire and smoke damage to residences), meeting the Severe criterion of reported fire/property-damage. Although no injuries are reported, the documented history of actual fires and extensive property destruction justifies a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Daikin Comfort Technologies Manufacturing, L.P. (formerly Goodman Manufacturing Company, L.P.) is recalling approximately 298,300 evaporator coil drain pans sold nationwide through heating and cooling equipment independent dealers from January 2019 through November 2021. The recalled drain pans are those installed with condensing gas furnaces in an up-flow coil configuration, as well as those installed with certain configurations of non-condensing residential gas furnaces (competitor brands, excluding Goodman, Daikin, or Amana) in a vertical up-flow coil configuration.

The molded plastic drain pan located at the bottom of the evaporator coil can overheat, melt, and deform, posing a fire hazard. Daikin Comfort Technologies has received 26 reports of fires involving evaporator coil drain pans, including three reports since the recall was announced in November 2021. Several incidents have resulted in significant fire and smoke damage to residences. No injuries have been reported.

Affected units can be identified by serial numbers on the evaporator coil or case.
