What this means for you

Plain-English summary

Organic Pure Oil, of Santa Ana, Calif., is recalling approximately 40 units of 4 fl. oz (118 mL) Wintergreen Essential Oil. The product consists of amber glass bottles with black dropper caps and green and pink labels displaying "Organic Pure Oil," "Wintergreen," and "Gaultheria Procumbens." The UPC code for the product is 731525205594.

The recall is due to the product's failure to meet the child-resistant packaging requirements of the Poison Prevention Packaging Act (PPPA). The essential oil contains methyl salicylate, a substance that must be packaged in child-resistant containers. The current packaging is not child-resistant, which poses a risk of poisoning if the contents are swallowed by young children. No injuries have been reported.

The product was sold exclusively online at Amazon.com from April 2018 through January 2020 for between $29 and $32. Consumers should immediately store the product in a safe location out of reach of children and contact Organic Pure Oil for a full refund. Organic Pure Oil and Amazon are notifying all known purchasers directly.
