The recalled adapters are black, feature a power cord connecting to the scanner and an electrical outlet, and bear the internal part code "EADP-16CB B" on their labels. Approximately 314,000 units were sold in the United States, with an additional 25,000 sold in Canada.

The adapters pose a burn and fire hazard because they can overheat, melt, and catch fire. Epson is aware of 15 incidents worldwide where the adapter melted or caught fire, resulting in property damage. No injuries have been reported.

The affected adapters were sold at Best Buy, Office Depot, Staples, Walmart, and department stores nationwide from January 2010 through December 2015. They were sold for between $55 and $80 as part of the scanner and adapter package. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled adapters and contact Epson USA toll-free at 888-367-2656 or online at www.epson.com to receive a free replacement adapter.
