Plain-English summary
WilliamsRDM Inc. is recalling approximately 9,300 pairs of StoveTop FireStop Rangehood and Microhood Automatic Cooktop Fire Suppressors. The recall involves devices manufactured between November 7, 2016, and November 13, 2016. These flame-activated, dry chemical powder fire suppression devices are designed to mount over residential cooktop stoves in a vent hood or underneath a microwave. The STFS Rangehood models are silver-colored metal with a red label and a date code of 4516 stamped on the top of the can. The STFS Microhood models feature a white plastic housing with a date code of DEC 2022 stamped on the underside ramp.
The recall is being issued because the fire suppressors can fail to activate the sealed openings that allow the suppressant powder to feed out of the canister and suppress the fire. The manufacturer is aware of two instances where the fire suppressors failed to operate during a product demonstration. No injuries have been reported.
The affected devices were sold nationwide and online at HomeDepot.com in November 2016 through retailers including HD Supply, Interline, Louisville Fire and Safety, and Central Wholesalers. The STFS Rangehood was sold for about $56, and the STFS Microhood for about $80. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled fire suppressors and contact WilliamsRDM to receive free replacements.
