K2 Sports Recalls VO2 S Inline Skates Due to Fall Hazard

K2 Sports is recalling VO2 S inline skates because the axle can loosen or break, causing wheels to separate and posing a fall hazard. No injuries have been reported.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (fall hazard) where injury has not yet been reported, which aligns with the 'High' severity criteria in the rubric.

Plain-English summary

K2 Sports LLC is recalling approximately 2,700 pairs of VO2 S inline skates sold in the United States and about 740 pairs sold in Canada. The recall involves specific models including the VO2 S 90 PRO M, VO2 S 90 PRO W, VO2 S 100 PRO M, VO2 S 100 X PRO W (Hi Lo), and VO2 S 100 BOA. These skates were sold at specialty stores nationwide and online at www.k2sports.com from January 2019 through May 2019 for between $280 and $300.

The recall is due to a fall hazard where the skate axle can become loose or a portion of the axle can shear off during use. This defect can result in a wheel separating from the skate's frame. K2 Sports has received four reports of loose axle hardware, but no injuries have been reported.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled skates. They should contact K2 Sports or the store where purchased to return the skates for a free repair.
