The recall involves specific model numbers including SRViper R-TX, L-TX, S-TX, X-TX, and M-TX series in various colors. The model name is printed on the front cowling, and the VIN and model number are stamped on the frame near the right foot-well.

The hazard is that the turbocharger can overboost, causing severe engine damage. This failure poses crash and fire hazards to the user. Yamaha has received 40 reports of engine damage due to the turbocharger overboost, but no injuries have been reported.

The recalled snowmobiles were sold at Yamaha snowmobile dealers nationwide from August 2015 through April 2016 for between $12,800 and $14,100. The MPI Turbo Kits were sold as an after-market accessory at the same dealers from March 2015 through September 2016 for about $3,300. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled snowmobiles and contact a local Yamaha dealer to schedule a free repair. Yamaha is also contacting all registered owners directly.
