BioLite Recalls BaseLanterns Due to Fire Hazard from Overheating Batteries

BioLite, Inc. is recalling the BaseLantern and BaseLantern XL, which are small rechargeable LED lanterns that also function as powerbanks. The recall involves approximately 5,900 units sold exclusively online at Kickstarter.com between August 2016 and October 2016 for between $100 and $130. The affected serial numbers are PLC000001-PLC004000 and PLCXL000001-PLCXL006000, located on the bottom of the device and its packaging.
The recall is due to a fire hazard: the lithium-ion battery can overheat while charging. BioLite has received one report of a BaseLantern catching fire, which caused minor property damage. No injuries have been reported.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled lanterns and contact BioLite for instructions on returning them for a free replacement. BioLite is contacting all known customers.
