Profile Design LLC is recalling approximately 9,700 Cobra S carbon-wrapped black handlebar stems sold in the United States. The stems were sold individually and as original equipment on specific Kestrel, Fuji, Jamis, and Scott bicycle models between January 2007 and December 2013. The stems are black with "Profile Design" and "Cobra S" printed in white and are available in seven lengths ranging from 60 mm to 120 mm.
The recall was issued because the handlebar stems can corrode and break, which may cause the rider to lose control of the bicycle and crash. The company has received at least 10 reports of the stems corroding and breaking, including one report of a rider injury resulting from a stem break.
Consumers should immediately stop using bicycles equipped with the recalled handlebar stems.
