Plain-English summary
Deda Elementi S.r.l. is recalling about 400 Deda Forza black carbon fiber handlebar stems in gloss finish. The stems are black with a gloss finish and have "Deda Forza" printed on them. Matte finish stems are not included in this recall.
The top of the handlebar stem can crack, which can cause the rider to lose control of the bicycle and pose a crash hazard. Deda Elementi has received four reports of incidents involving the stems, but no injuries have been reported.
The recalled stems were sold on bicycles priced between $4,300 and $8,700 at bicycle retailers nationwide from January 2008 through June 2008. Consumers should stop using the bicycles equipped with the recalled stems and return them to the place of purchase to receive a free replacement handlebar stem.
