What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (ingestion hazard causing intestinal obstruction) where injury has not yet been reported, fitting the criteria for a High severity score.

Plain-English summary

Target Corp. is recalling approximately 560,000 water-absorbing Easter and dinosaur toys, including Hatch & Grow Easter Eggs, Easter Grow Toys, and Hatch Your Own Dino Eggs. These products were sold at Target stores nationwide from February 2017 through March 2017 for about $1 each. The recalled items include pink, blue, or purple Easter eggs with bunnies or butterflies; Easter grow toys with chicks or bunnies; and purple or yellow/green dinosaur eggs.

The recall is due to a serious ingestion hazard. If a child swallows the small toy, it can expand inside the body and cause intestinal obstructions. This can result in severe discomfort, vomiting, dehydration, and potentially life-threatening conditions. Surgery is required to remove the toy if ingested. Medical professionals and parents should be aware that these toys may not show up on an x-ray. No injuries have been reported to date.

Consumers should immediately take the recalled toys away from children and return them to any Target store for a full refund. For more information, consumers can contact Target at 800-440-0680 between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. CT, Monday through Sunday, or visit the "Recalls" section on Target's website or Facebook page.
