Arctic Cat Recalls Side-by-Side Utility Vehicles Due to Throttle Cable Crash Hazard
Arctic Cat is recalling about 4,500 side-by-side utility vehicles because a stuck throttle cable can prevent the vehicle from returning to idle, posing a crash hazard.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (vehicle crash hazard) where injury has been reported (one wrist injury), but no deaths or serious injuries are explicitly stated, fitting the 'High' severity criteria for risk-of-harm products with reported injury but not meeting the threshold for 'Severe' (significant injury/property damage reports or structural defect).
Plain-English summary
Arctic Cat Inc. is recalling approximately 4,500 side-by-side utility vehicles, including model year 2016 Arctic Cat 700 HDX models and model year 2017 Arctic Cat 700 HDX CREW models. The recall involves vehicles with vehicle identification numbers ranging from 300001 through 301280. These four-wheeled vehicles feature side-by-side seating for three or six people and were sold in various colors, including green, black, fire red, and true timber camo.
The recall is due to a defect where the throttle cable can stick, preventing the throttle mechanism from returning to an idle position when the rider releases the throttle. This malfunction can cause the rider to lose control of the vehicle, posing a crash hazard and risk of injury. Arctic Cat has received 14 reports of the throttle cable malfunctioning, including one report of a wrist injury.
The affected vehicles were sold at Arctic Cat dealers nationwide from April 2015 through July 2016 for between $14,500 and $16,000. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled vehicles and contact an Arctic Cat dealer to schedule a free repair. Arctic Cat is also contacting all known purchasers directly. For more information, consumers can call Arctic Cat at 800-279-6851 or visit the company's website.
