Plain-English summary
Kawasaki is expanding a recall for approximately 19,500 Teryx and Teryx4 recreational off-highway vehicles due to a hazard where sticks or other debris can break through the vehicle's floorboard and protrude into the foot rest area. This defect poses an injury hazard to the operator and front passenger. The recall covers 2012 and 2013 model year Teryx4 750 4x4 vehicles, as well as 2014, 2015, and 2016 model year Teryx 800 4x4 and Teryx4 800 4x4 vehicles. These vehicles were sold nationwide by Kawasaki dealers from November 2011 through November 2015 for between $13,400 and $16,300.
Kawasaki has received 628 incident reports of debris cracking or breaking through the floorboards, including eight reports of injuries to riders' lower extremities. This recall expands on previous actions, with an additional 11,000 units recalled for the same hazard in July 2014 and 7,000 units for a different hazard in August 2012.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled vehicles and contact an authorized Kawasaki dealer to schedule a free repair.
