Plain-English summary
KHS America of Mt. Juliet, Tenn., is recalling the Green Tones 8-note Monkey Glockenspiel. The recall involves approximately 150 units of the children's musical instrument, which features eight metal bars mounted on a wooden base shaped like a monkey. The specific hazard is the second bar from the top, which is pink, 3.5 inches long, and stamped with a "B." This bar may contain excessive levels of lead in the surface coating, violating the federal lead paint standard. If the paint is scraped off and ingested, the lead can cause adverse health effects.
The instruments were sold at independent toy and music retailers and online at amazon.com and gogreentones.com from January 2015 through September 2015 for about $40. The product was manufactured in Israel. No injuries have been reported in connection with this recall.
Consumers should immediately remove the pink bar from the glockenspiel. They should contact KHS America Green Tones at 800-283-4676 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or visit www.gogreentones.com and click on "Contact Us" to obtain information on getting a free replacement pink bar.
