Plain-English summary
KYMCO USA is recalling approximately 540 all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) manufactured in Taiwan. The recall covers model year 2013, 2014, and 2015 KYMCO MXU 700 ATVs, including standard, LE, and Camo versions. These vehicles were sold at KYMCO dealers nationwide from April 2013 to August 2014 for approximately $9,000. The affected vehicles feature the words KYMCO and MXU 700, MXU 700 LE, or MXU 700 Camo on the front of the hood and rear fenders.
The recall is issued because, in hot environments or at high elevations, the fuel cap may fail to vent properly. This can cause fuel to heat up and pressure to build within the tank, potentially leading to the tank rupturing or fuel boiling out onto the operator or hot engine parts. Such incidents can result in burns to the operator or a fire. No injuries have been reported in connection with this defect.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled ATVs and contact an authorized KYMCO dealer for a free repair. The dealer will collect the original gas caps to confirm the repair has been completed. Consumers can also contact KYMCO USA toll-free at (888) 235-3417 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. PT Monday through Friday, or visit www.kymcousa.com for more information.
