Prestone Products Corporation is recalling approximately 4.1 million units of Prestone® Windshield De-Icer and Prestone® Ice & Frost Shield. The recall was initiated because the trigger spray assembly on these containers can be removed by twisting the neck shroud counter-clockwise. This design flaw fails to meet child-resistant closure requirements, posing a risk of poisoning if children gain access to the product, which contains methanol and ethylene glycol.

The affected products were sold in clear yellow 32-ounce trigger spray plastic bottles. The Windshield De-Icer (SKU AS-246) features a black nozzle tip, while the Ice & Frost Shield (SKU AS-247) has a yellow trigger pull. These items were sold at retailers including AutoZone, Kroger, Meijer, O'Reilly's, Pep Boys, Walmart, and Amazon.com from September 2011 through August 2015 for between $3 and $11.

No injuries have been reported in connection with this recall. Consumers should inspect their bottles to see if the trigger assembly can be removed. If it can, they should contact Prestone to receive a new replacement trigger assembly that cannot be removed once engaged.
