Plain-English summary
Barnett Outdoors LLC is recalling approximately 88,000 Black Widow slingshots sold in the United States and 16,000 in Canada. The recall involves slingshots with a black plastic handgrip, silver metal fork, and a folding wrist brace with a black soft plastic wrist strap. A distinguishing feature of the recalled units is that the wrist strap lacks an X marking where the ends slide onto the wrist brace. These slingshots were sold at various sporting goods stores, Walmart, and online retailers from July 2014 to May 2015 for about $10.
The recall is due to a risk of injury. The wrist strap can slip off the wrist brace when the slingshot's pouch is pulled back. This can cause the body of the slingshot to snap back and strike the user. Barnett has received two reports of this incident, resulting in one consumer receiving bruises and another suffering facial fractures.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled slingshots. They should contact Barnett Outdoors at (800) 237-4507, extension 2, or visit www.barnettslingshots.com to receive a free replacement wrist strap.
