Goal Zero LLC is recalling approximately 10,000 Sherpa brand 50 and 120 rechargeable battery packs in the United States and 110 in Canada. These silver and black lithium ion iron phosphate battery packs are used to charge cell phones, tablets, laptops, and other devices. The recall includes units with serial numbers starting with S/N 11002 or S/N 11102; Sherpa 50 packs with serial numbers starting with S50 are not included.

The battery packs can overcharge, overheat, bulge, and melt the enclosure, posing a fire hazard and risk of property damage. Goal Zero has received one report of a fire, two reports of property damage, and one report of a consumer becoming ill after breathing fumes from an overheated battery pack.

The affected battery packs were sold at REI and other sporting goods stores nationwide, as well as online at Amazon.com and Goalzero.com, from March 2010 through November 2013 for between $200 and $400. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled battery packs and contact Goal Zero toll-free at (877) 897-3193 or online at www.goalzero.com to obtain a free replacement battery pack.
