Plain-English summary
Giant Bicycles is recalling approximately 200 units of 2013 model year Giant XtC Advanced SL 29er 0 and 29er 1 series bicycles, as well as 27.2 mm carbon fiber seatposts sold separately. The recall was initiated because the bicycle seatposts on the affected models and the after-market seatposts can crack, which poses a fall hazard to the rider.
The affected bicycles were sold at bicycle stores nationwide between November 2012 and May 2013. The SL 29er 0 model is white, black, and blue, while the SL 29er 1 model is white, black, and red. Both bicycles feature the letters "XTC" on the down tube of the frame. The recalled seatposts are 27.2 mm carbon fiber and display the names "Giant" and "Contact SLR." Giant Bicycles received five reports of the seatposts breaking, but no injuries have been reported.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bicycles and seatposts. They should contact a Giant Bicycle dealer to obtain a free replacement seatpost. For more information, consumers can contact Giant Bicycle Inc. toll-free at (866) 458-2555 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. PT Monday through Friday, or visit www.giant-bicycles.com-en-us/ and click on Recall Information.
