LEM Products Distribution, LLC is recalling approximately 14,600 5-Tray Food Dehydrators with Digital Timers in the United States and 100 in Canada. The recall is due to a fire hazard caused by fan failure, which can lead to the unit overheating. The dehydrators are gray, made of plastic and metal, and feature the model number 1009 on a label on the back panel. The "LEM" logo is embossed on the top of the unit, which includes a digital timer, on/off switch, and temperature control knob. The UPC code 734494010091 is printed on the bottom of the packaging.
The company has received two reports of fan failure that resulted in fires. In one incident, a consumer was nearby and prevented a larger fire by carrying the unit outside. No injuries were reported in these incidents. The product was sold at Bass Pro Shops, Gander Mountain, Sportsman's Warehouse, and other mass merchandisers and retailers nationwide, as well as online at Amazon.com and www.lemproducts.com, from August 2010 through February 2013 for about $160. This product was previously recalled in February 2011.
Consumers should immediately stop using the dehydrator and contact LEM Products Distribution for instructions on free shipping and repair. LEM is offering a one-year warranty extension and a $10 discount coupon for consumers who return their recalled units for repair.
