What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a fire hazard with reported fuel leaks but no reported injuries, which aligns with the rubric criterion for risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.
Plain-English summary
Kawasaki Motors Corp. USA is recalling approximately 55,000 fuel filters and 1,200 tune-up kits containing fuel filters for lawn mower and utility vehicle engines. The recalled filters are white translucent plastic and attach to the fuel tubes on the engines. They were sold separately and as part of engine tune-up kits between August 2011 and August 2012 at Kawasaki dealers nationwide.
The recall is due to a fire hazard caused by the fuel filters leaking. Kawasaki has received 110 reports of fuel leaks in lawn mowers, including two reports of leaks from replacement filters. No injuries have been reported.
Consumers should immediately stop using products with the recalled fuel filters. They should contact Kawasaki or a Kawasaki dealer for a free repair. The recalled filters have "VISU Filter" and a manufacturing date code on the top, with date codes ranging from 136/11 through 365/11 and 001/12 through 216/12. Recalled tune-up kits have specific part numbers listed on the box.
