The recalled product is a black 37-volt, 10Ah battery measuring 8.75 inches by 5.75 inches by 3.25 inches. The label on the side of the battery displays "E+" and includes the code "EMS# 11819-101" at the top right with a serial number between 10001 and 10200. These batteries were sold individually and as part of E+ Flex Kits, which are complete propulsion systems.
The company is recalling the batteries because they can overheat and catch fire. Electric Motion Systems LLC was aware of three reports of the battery catching fire, with one incident resulting in a consumer receiving minor burns.
The batteries were sold at bike shops nationwide and on the company's website from October 2009 through November 2010. The batteries were sold for between $900 and $1,000, and the E+ Flex Kits were sold for between $2,325 and $2,675. Consumers should immediately stop using the battery packs and dispose of them according to federal, state, and/or local regulations. The firm is out of business, and a remedy is no longer available.
