The hazard exists when these specific cables are installed on road bikes using Campagnolo-style brake levers. In such configurations, the cables can detach, causing the brakes to fail and posing a fall hazard. The company is aware of one report of a brake cable detaching, but no injuries have been reported. The recall is limited to cables installed on bikes with Campagnolo-style levers, identifiable by attachment heads imprinted with "C," "CC," or "RO."

The cables were sold at bicycle specialty shops, sporting goods retailers, and online retailers including Amazon.com from January 2008 through January 2012 for between $40 and $65. Consumers should stop using their bicycles if these cables are installed on Campagnolo-style levers and contact Gore for a free replacement cable kit. Gore will also reimburse consumers for the repair cost.
