Fiskars Recalls SmartPower String Trimmers for Burn and Fire Hazards

Fiskars Brands, Inc. is recalling approximately 2,200 units of the Fiskars® SmartPower™ Propane 4-Cycle Straight Shaft String Trimmer (Model 67016935) and the SmartPower™ Propane 4-Cycle Curved Shaft String Trimmer (Model 67036946). These products were sold at The Exchange stores (AAFES) and online through Amazon.com, Walmart.com, Powerequipmentdirect.com, and SureSource.com between January 2011 and July 2011 for prices between $220 and $280. The trimmers are black, silver, and orange, with "SmartPower™" printed on the lower shaft and "Fiskars®" on the engine cover and cutting guard.

The recall is issued because engine vibration can cause wear on the fuel line, leading to propane fuel leaks. Additionally, the propane canister on the Straight Shaft models can crack at the neck during use, and high temperatures may cause the plastic cutting guard on the Curved Shaft models to deform and fall off. These defects pose burn, fire, and laceration hazards to users. No injuries have been reported.
