Plain-English summary
Hoover Inc. is recalling approximately 142,000 WindTunnel Bagless Canister Vacuums, model S3755. The vacuum is silver and black and includes a power nozzle. The model number is located on a label on the bottom of the canister.
The recall is due to a defect in the power cord between the power nozzle and the wand connector, which can short-circuit. This condition can occur even if the vacuum is turned off but remains plugged in, posing fire and shock hazards to consumers. Hoover has received 69 reports of overheating or electrical malfunction, including one report of fire and smoke damage, two reports of carpet damage, and one report of a minor injury.
The affected vacuums were sold nationwide and online through mass merchandisers, department stores, and independent vacuum retailers from March 2003 to December 2008 for between $250 and $280. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled vacuum cleaners and contact Hoover for a free repair. For more information, contact Hoover toll-free at (888) 564-2066 between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit www.hoover.com/windtunnelcanisterrecall.
